       "achilles"

Achilles was found walking on the streets in upstate NY.  He was brought to the local pound and was set to be put down a few days later.  Luckily, NEBTR was able to find a foster mom to pull him out.  We had put in an application for a rescue with NEBTR in the summer of 2008, and were waiting for the perfect match for our saucy little Boston, Sadie.  One day in November 2008, I get a call from Achilles foster mom.  She read our application and though we would be the perfect family for him.  A few weeks later, we were able to meet Achilles and we immediately fell in love.  Right away, he proved to be total love bug.  He and Sadie love to play, and he is very patient and gentle with her.  Achilles has won the heart of everyone that meets him.  We will forever be grateful to NEBTR and him foster mom, who continues to be a part of Achilles life, for saving his life and bringing him to us.      -jeanine

          "princess"

OUR LITTLE PRINCESS

Good things can really happen when you least expect it. There we were driving down a busy street and five o’clock rush hour when my husband shouts "Did you see that little dog drinking out of the ditch?" So we find a spot, pull over and stop. Out he jumps and starts toward the ditch. In a flash he was back with this scrawny matted haired little dog. Not to mention she didn’t smell the best either. We took the dog home, gave it a bath, food and water. The dog was a little girl who showed definite signs of neglect.

We had no intension of having a dog at this time, so we discussed taking her to the vet to be checked over and asking about a rescue dog site. We made the appointment but couldn’t get in for a few days so we continued to care for her. Of course she was smart and begun to train us. I bought her a blanket and toys. She like the blanket but acted like she had never seen a toy. This broke my heart! We tried keeping her in the laundry room at night but she cried so loud we just couldn’t take it so we put her in our room. Now the day of the vet came and he checked her from head to toe and said she was okay but a little under weight. They also directed me to a rescue site. I took the photos and put her on the site. In the meantime, one of my neighbors thought she might be a good fit for her son. She agreed to keep her for a day and test out the situation. As I drove away and left her a knot began to form in my stomach. Each mile became increasingly difficult to drive keeping a clear focus on the road. Suddenly my cell phone rang. I answered; it was my husband on the other end saying it was okay with him to keep the dog. That was all I needed to hear. I hung up immediately, then called my neighbor and told her I had a change of heart and would be right back to pick up the dog. As I drove home all I could think about was the website I had put her pictures on. I could hardly get them off fast enough.

She needs a name. I ask my daughter, my mother, friends and husband what should be name her? It has to be a name that fits her. We had several choices but the one that was most fitting was "Princess". Truly she was treated like one, loved like one and she already had my husband around her little paw. Today, Princess is a very important member of our family. She is a good little girl and spoiled too. We love her dearly and can’t image her anywhere but with us. She has given us hours of laughter and put a new purpose in our life. Best of all, she is daddy’s little girl and he adores her!

                     "jenny"

Jenny came to us when she was 7 and a half years old through Boston Terrier Club of Maryland Rescue.  Her first few years were spent in a cage at a puppy mill.  Thankfully, the mill was raided, bringing Jenny to BTCMD Rescue for the first time.  When her first 'mom' passed away, Jenny came back to BTCMD Rescue, and into our home, which was never to be the same.

Since then, Jenny, now 13 years old, has brought love and joy to us, and those around her, beyond measure.  Her indomitable spirit has led her through much adversity, including her cancer diagnosis in 2007.  After 2 surgeries and ongoing nutritional therapy, she remains cancer free and full of life.  She is on the payroll at her mom's store, and is a customer favorite.  Since moving to New York City 3 years ago, she has claimed Central Park as her own.  When asked how Jenny is adapting to The Big Apple, we always reply...how is The Big Apple adapting to Jenny!
She is the miracle of our lives.  Our shining light.  We can never thank BTCMD Rescue enough for the blessing they have given us, and all rescue organizations for the magical work they do for so many, too many, animals in need.
